The director of a Norwell adult day care center said Tuesday the facility is cooperating with law enforcement and state regulators in a case involving a former van driver accused of multiple indecent assaults against elderly disabled women as he drove them to and from the facility.

Ron Morganelli said he is heartbroken by the allegations against the driver, Robert J. McNeil, who is charged with assaulting six CareWell Adult Day Wellness Center clients, many of whom were suffering from conditions that prevented them from reporting what had happened.

Morganelli asked for privacy for the center and the alleged victims, and noted that McNeil, 57, of Pembroke, was no longer an employee. CareWell was sold in July to the company Active Day, which runs similar facilities around the country.

As the criminal case plays out, the center is facing an inquiry from the Department of Public Health, which licenses the state’s 152 adult day health programs.

McNeil came forward July 4, according to a police report in Plymouth District Court, where he was arraigned Monday and released on personal recognizance. He was charged in August.
