Broncos’ Keo faces Idaho DUI charge

Denver Broncos backup safety Shiloh Keo faces a charge of driving under the influence in Idaho, where he has a home in the southwest part of the state. The 28-year-old Keo, whose recovery of an onside kick in the AFC Championship against the Patriots propelled Denver to the Super Bowl, was taken into custody by Idaho State Police just after 2 a.m. Saturday. He wasn’t on the jail roster later, indicating he had posted bail. The Broncos issued a statement: ‘‘We are aware of the matter involving Shiloh Keo and are in the process of reviewing it.’’ . . . The NFL came down hard on Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib for his deliberate facemask in the Super Bowl, fining him $26,044 for taunting Carolina Panthers receiver Corey Brown and slinging Brown out of bounds by his facemask later in the drive. The fine cut into Talib’s $102,000 Super Bowl bonus each Bronco player received for their victory over the Panthers . . . The Green Bay Packers re-signed defensive tackle Letroy ­Guion to a three-year deal worth $11.25 million, a move that could affect the return of fellow lineman B.J. Raji, the former Boston College standout who is due to become a free agent. The 6-foot-4-inch Guion had 20 tackles in 13 games in the 2015 season, starting four games. Guion was suspended for the first three games of the season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He returned to become a key member of a line rotation on the Packers’ solid defense . . . The Detroit Lions signed tackle Lamar Holmes, who played for the Atlanta Falcons previously, starting 15 games in 2013, but was waived in December and has not appeared in a game since the 2014 season due to foot problems . . . The Miami Dolphins terminated the contracts of defensive end Quinton Coples and cornerback Brice McCain, moves that could save the team about $10 million in salary-cap space.

TennisNadal ousted at Argentina

Former No. 1 Rafael Nadal was knocked out of the Argentina Open by rising 22-year-old star Dominic Thiem of Austria, who scored a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) semifinal victory over the defending champion. Nadal, ranked No. 5 by the ATP, had a match point at 5-4 on clay in the final set of the semifinal but failed to convert against Thiem, ranked No. 19 . . . Top-seeded Venus Williams beat Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan, 7-5, 6-3, to advance to the final of the Taiwan Open. Williams, a surprise first-round loser in the Australian Open last month, will face Japan’s Misaki Doi in Sunday’s final . . . Fifth-seeded Gael Monfils of France beat Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germ­any, 6-3, 6-2, to set up a World Tennis Tournament final against Martin Klizan of Slovakia, who earlier beat qualifier Nicolas Mahut of France, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (9-7), 6-2, in Rotterdam.

Lloyd’s goal lifts US women

Carli Lloyd scored off a rebound of her own penalty kick in the 86th minute and the United States beat Mexico, 1-0, in Frisco, Texas, to clinch a spot in the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying semifinals. Lloyd’s penalty shot, following a Mexico hand ball in the penalty area, went to the middle of the goal and was blocked by Cecilia Santiago. Lloyd buried the rebound, with Santiago still on the ground, for her 84th career goal. In another group stage match, Costa Rica routed Puerto Rico, 9-0. The winners of the semifinals — set for Houston on Feb. 19 — will qualify for the Rio Olympics . . . Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals to lead Real Madrid to a 4-2 win over Athletic Bilbao, provisionally lifting it into second place in the Spanish League . . . Dutch soccer great Johan Cruyff, 68, expressed his confidence he will go on to win his battle against lung cancer. The former Ajax, Barce­lona, and Netherlands star, a smoker during his playing days and until undergoing an emergency heart bypass in 1991, disclosed his illness last October. In a statement on his website, Cruyff said, ‘‘Right now, I have the feeling that I am 2-0 up in the first half of a match that has not finished yet. But I am sure that I will end up winning.’’

Shiffrin return snowed out

Mikaela Shiffrin, the Olympic and world slalom champion, was set to return from a knee injury in the World Cup slalom in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. It would have been her first race since tearing a ligament in her right knee in December. However, heavy snow ruled out Saturday’s downhill and — with the snow continuing to fall — there are fears it could affect the slalom too, which was rescheduled for Crans-Montana after being canceled in Maribor . . . Maxim Vylegzhanin and Alexander Bessmertnykh of Russia put a small dent in Norway’s domination of cross-country skiing with a 1-2 finish in the men’s 10-kilometer World Cup race in Falun, Sweden . . . Alexis Pinturault led a 1-2 finish for France in the men’s World Cup giant slalom in Yuzawa, Japan. Pinturault, who was second after the first run, used a blistering second run of 1 minute, 17.78 seconds to finish 0.51 ahead of compatriot Mathieu Faivre. Massimiliano Blardone of Italy was third, 0.67 off the pace . . . Former Notre Dame All-America halfback John Lattner, the 1953 Heisman Trophy winner who helped the Fighting Irish to a 9-0-1 record and a No. 2 ranking in Frank Leahy’s final year as a coach, died Saturday.
