People’s Choice Awards 9 p.m., CBS
’Twas the season to hand out gifts. Now ’tis the season to hand out trophies. Or at least it is in the entertainment world. The 67 People’s Choice categories cover television, movies, music, online, and gaming. The single biggest category is television, which should tell you something about the voters’ primary orientation. Jane Lynch hosts.
American Crime 10 p.m., ABC
John Ridley’s crime series returns for a second season. The plot and setting are new: An Indiana high school student claims that members of another school’s basketball team sexually assaulted him and posted photos online. The characters are new, too, though not all of the actors. Returning from last season, in different roles, are Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton (pictured), Regina King, Elvis Nolasco, Richard Cabral, and Lili Taylor.
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee 11:30 p.m., Crackle
Comedians are no strangers to one-upmanship, so let’s see Jerry Seinfeld come up with an improvement over last week’s guest, President Obama.
American Idol 8 p.m., Fox
It’s the 15th, and final, season. On hand will be host Ryan Seacrest, and judges Harry Connick Jr., Keith Urban, and Jennifer Lopez.
Particle Fever 10 p.m., WGBH 2
An up-close and documentary look at the Large Hadron Collider.
