Audacious is one word to describe the musings of comedian Doug Stanhope. Rude is another. But that’s what made Stanhope’s memoir, “Digging Up Mother: A Love Story,’’ so readable. The book, rooted in the comedian’s Worcester childhood, came out earlier this year, but the audio version was released Tuesday, and it includes a lot of new material for fans. Stanhope, whose admirers include Johnny Depp, Louis C.K., and Ricky Gervais, enlisted some of his childhood chums to share their own blurry memories of time spent with Stanhope in Worcester and to voice letters from guidance counselors, diary entries from the comedian’s mom, and old homework assignments. Best of all, the audiobook was recorded podcast-style, which, according to the author, means “we were drinking a lot. For days.’’
