Here’s a vote for flash-forwarding to 1964, which would allow for Petula Clark’s “Downtown’’ — its title slightly altered — to run beneath the closing credits.

THE BACHELOR 9 p.m., ABC
The reality-TV series about looking for love in all the network places (so long as the network is ABC) returns for a 20th season. This year’s contestant is Ben Higgins, a software salesman hailing from Denver. In the matter of reality-TV love, he knows what it’s like to lose. He finished third on season 11 of “The Bachelorette.’’ Now he finds out what it’s like to choose.
TUESDAY
FRONTLINE: NETANYAHU AT WAR 9 p.m., WGBH-2
The controversial Israeli prime minister’s past, present, and future are the subject of this two-hour documentary. Particular attention is paid to what has been a highly charged relationship between Netanyahu and President Barack Obama.

PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS 9 p.m., CBS
The holiday season has ended, which means . . . the awards season begins. The People’s Choice Awards kicks things off, with its 67 categories and several thousand nominees (just kidding). The Golden Globes are next Sunday night. The Screen Actors Guild Awards are Jan. 30. The Grammys are Feb. 15. The Oscars are Feb. 28. Best People’s Choice category? Jennifer Lopez stars as a single-mom police detective working with an FBI anti-corruption unit in New York. Also on hand as Lopez’s fellow cops are Ray Liotta and Drea de Matteo.
FRIDAY
OLIVE KITTERIDGE 5 p.m., HBO2
Based on Elizabeth Strout’s novel about a much-beset retired Maine schoolteacher, the 2015 miniseries won seven Emmys. They included outstanding limited series and acting honors for Frances McDormand, in the title role, Richard Jenkins, and Bill Murray. The series’ four hourlong episodes run consecutively.
SATURDAY
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD 9 p.m., HBO
George Miller’s much-praised reboot of his film trilogy set in a post-apocalyptic world makes its cable debut. Tom Hardy impressively replaces Mel Gibson in the title role. But Charlize Theron, as the aptly named Imperator Furiosa, steals the show.
