Michael Young scored 19 of his 30 points in the second half, and Pittsburgh snapped an eight-game losing streak with an 83-72 win over Boston College Wednesday night in a match of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s bottom two teams at Conte Forum.

Jamel Artis, the ACC’s leading scorer, had only 6 points for the Panthers (13-11, 2-9) after injuring his right leg early in the game. Sheldon Jeter had 17 and Chris Jones 14.

Jerome Robinson led the Boston College (9-16, 2-10) with 22 points. Ky Bowman had 15 points and Mo Jeffers a season-high 14. It was the Eagles’ eighth straight loss.

Tied at halftime, Pittsburgh outscored the Eagles, 9-2, in the initial 2:15 of the second half, but BC sliced it to 43-37 before the Panthers went on an 11-3 run over the ensuing three minutes. Young’s 3-pointer made it 54-40 with 12:35 to play.

Artis, who entered scoring 20.7 per game, injured his leg trying to grab a loose ball under the basket 19 seconds into the game. He didn’t score his first points until nailing a 3-pointer from the left wing nearly four minutes into the second half.

After he got hurt, he hopped up the five steps on one leg behind the basket before taking a seat about 25 feet away from the court. He was joined by his teammates and a trainer. He came back for only five minutes in the first half, but was ineffective.

BC had opened a nine-point lead late into the first half, but Pitt tied it at 31 at halftime.

Likely because it was a matchup of the two worst teams in the conference, there was a very small showing in the stands — with it looking like an exhibition or early-season nonconference game against a weak opponent.

BU 65, American 64 — At Washington, Justin Alston scored 21 points, Eric Fanning hit two crucial free throws with 11 seconds left for the Terriers.

The win is BU’s fourth in five games, and keeps the Terriers (14-11, 9-4 Patriot League) in a second place tie with Navy league standings, two games behind Bucknell.

The game was close the entire second half, featuring five ties and four lead changes. Neither team led by more than six. A Max Mahoney layup followed by an Alston 3-point play gave BU a 63-58 lead with 2:44 left.

The Terriers held that lead the rest of the way, but the Eagles (5-19, 2-11) cut it to 63-62 with 15 seconds left. After a Charlie Jones foul, Fanning drilled two at the line to make it a 3-point game.

Sa'eed Nelson, who scored the final bucket to make it 65-64, led American with 20 points.

Lafayette 69, Holy Cross 59 — Matt Klinewski scored 25 points, added eight rebounds, and host Lafayette broke a season-long nine game losing streak.

Robert Champion scored 20 for Holy Cross (12-14, 6-7 Patriot League).

The Leopards (7-17, 3-10) also avenged a 17-point loss to Holy Cross on Jan. 11.

Baylor 72, Oklahoma State 69 — Johnathan Motley scored 24 points to lead the sixth-ranked Bears (21-3, 8-3 Big 12) over the Cowboys (15-9, 4-7) at Stillwater, Okla.

The Bears led by 13 points with 4:13 to play, but Oklahoma State’s pressure defense made it a game.

The Cowboys could have taken the lead in the final minute, but Baylor’s Jo Lual-Acuil blocked Jawun Evans’s layup. After Baylor’s Manu Lecomte made two free throws with 14 seconds to play, Evans and Phil Forte missed 3-point attempts.
