Tracking Picasso’s footprints across the arts
Pablo Picasso died in 1973, but he’s still very much with us. His influence is well-documented in an exhibit at the Grand Palais in Paris that closes soon. Fortunately, we now have a book, “Picasso.Mania’’ (Hirmer), based on the show. With some 300 images and about a dozen essays, the book features some rarely seen Picasso works, and it discusses his effect not just on artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol but on cinema, dance, theater, and video art. “Picasso.Mania’’ is edited by Didier Ottinger from the Centre Pompidou; Diana Widmaier-Picasso, Picasso’s granddaughter and an art historian ; and Emilie Bouvard of the Picasso museum in Paris.
