Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw is scheduled to pitch Friday at Miami after spending more than two months on the disabled list with a herniated disk. Manager Dave Roberts said Kershaw won’t have a specific pitch count, but the team will be looking at the big picture with the playoffs coming up next month. Kershaw dominated in his lone rehab start at Single A Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday night. The lefthander allowed only an infield hit, struck out five, and walked none. He threw 35 pitches in the game and another 15 in the bullpen to reach his 50-pitch limit. Kershaw was 11-2 with a 1.79 ERA before getting injured . . . Mets manager Terry Collins said Jacob deGrom is likely to miss multiple starts because of forearm inflammation. The righthander didn’t pitch past the fifth inning in any of his last three starts, posting a 9.82 ERA in that span . . . The Padres released veteran shortstop Alexei Ramirez. San Diego signed the former All-Star to a one-year, $4 million deal last offseason with a $4 million mutual option for 2017.
Ramirez, 34, hit .240 with five homers and 41 RBIs in 128 games.

Pelicans’ Holiday takes leave
Former US soccer star Lauren Holiday has been diagnosed with a brain tumor while pregnant, and her husband, New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday, is taking indefinite leave from the NBA team to care for his wife, the Pelicans said Sunday. ‘‘The most important thing for Jrue to do right now is be with his wife and family,’’ Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said in a statement. The Holidays’ baby is due in mid-October, and in the interest of the health of both mother and baby, Lauren’s brain surgery will take place about six weeks after delivery, Jrue Holiday said . . . The Connecticut Sun couldn’t keep pace with the Lynx in Minneapolis, falling, 93-79, as Maya Moore paced Minnesota with 24 points. Alex Bentley’s 16 points led the Sun . . . Masson grabs 1st LPGA title
Caroline Masson broke out of a star-filled pack to win the LPGA Manulife Classic for her first tour title. The 27-year-old German player rebounded from an opening double bogey to make nine birdies in a 5-under-par 67. She beat third-round leader Mi Hyang Lee, Minjee Lee, and Solheim Cup teammate Karine Icher by a stroke, finishing at 16-under 272 at Whistle Bear in Cambridge, Ontario. Ariya Jutanugarn tied for fifth at 14 under in her bid to win three straight events for the second time this season. Top-ranked Lydia Ko and 2015 winner Suzann Pettersen also were 14 under . . . Paraguay’s Carlos Franco rallied to win the Shaw Charity Classic at chilly Canyon Meadows in Calgary, Alberta, for his first Champions Tour victory. Franco shot his second straight 7-under 63 to beat Bernhard Langer and Michael Allen by two strokes . . . Alex Noren sank a 20-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole to beat Scott Hend in a playoff for the European Masters title in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. Noren fired a 5-under 65 to reach 17-under 263, tying Hend, the overnight leader who carded a 66.

Truck race ends with tackle
In a NASCAR Truck Series race in Bowmanville, Ontario, John Nemecheck was declared the winner following a lengthy review after racing door-to-door with Cole Custer while barreling to the finish line. Custer, furious over what he considered to be dirty racing by Nemecheck, then used a leaping tackle to knock Nemecheck to the ground at the flagstand. “We didn’t wreck him for the win. Rubbin’ is racin’, ’’ Nemecheck said . . . Scott Dixon won the IndyCar Grand Prix at the Glen at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International. It’s his 40th victory overall, moving the New Zealander to fourth place on the career list. Fastest in every practice and fastest in qualifying, Dixon led all but 10 of 60 laps Sunday. Simon Pagenaud finished seventh and increased his standings lead over Penske teammate Will Power to 43 points with one race remaining. Power crashed just past the midpoint of the race and finished 20th. He was not permitted to return to the race because of concussion symptoms . . . Formula One driver Nico Rosberg was unchallenged in winning the Italian Grand Prix in Monza after Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton wasted the pole position with a poor start. Rosberg, who started second, took the early lead and cruised to his seventh win of the season. Hamilton finished second. Rosberg also cut Hamilton’s championship lead to 2 points with seven races remaining.

Rapinoe kneels for anthem
US soccer star Megan Rapinoe knelt during the national anthem before the Seattle Reign’s NWSL game against the Chicago Red Stars ‘‘in a little nod’’ to NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who has refused to stand for the anthem to protest racial injustice and minority oppression. ‘‘It was very intentional,’’ Rapinoe said of her gesture. “I think it’s actually pretty disgusting the way [Kaepernick] was treated and the way that a lot of the media has covered it and made it about something that it absolutely isn't . . . It was something small that I could do and something that I plan to keep doing in the future and hopefully spark some meaningful conversation around it.’’ . . . Nadia Nadim had a hat trick as Portland Thorns FC routed the visiting Boston Breakers, 5-1. Julie King scored the Breakers’ goal . . . A surprise attack by Alberto Contador helped Nairo Quintana boost his lead over Chris Froome to more than three minutes after the 15th stage of the Spanish Vuelta. An audacious move by Contador’s Tinkoff team caught the peloton off guard with an attack at the start of the 74-mile ride starting in Sabinanigo in the Pyrenees. Quintana quickly joined Contador’s small breakaway that surprised Froome and isolated him from his Sky teammates, who were even further behind. Quintana increased his 54-second advantage entering the day to 3 minutes, 37 seconds after leading the charge up the last of three ascents while Froome struggled to pursue. Gianluca Brambilla of Italy won the stage for his Etixx-Quick Step team in 2:54:30.
