Photographer Don Krohn’s new book, “On Cape Cod,’’ features photographs from across the Cape. Each week in this section we’ll feature one photo from each of the Cape’s 15 towns and Krohn’s descriptions of his work.
I came upon this charming walkway while exploring among a colony of summer houses in East Sandwich. The symmetry, the softly worn rope guides and their shadows, the perfectly weathered posts, and the enveloping dune grass all caught my attention. And beyond that lay a pure expanse of water and sky. It seemed like all of Cape Cod was for a moment condensed in that inviting walkway to Cape Cod Bay, drawing me gently down toward the beach and water. Sandwich is rich in photographic subjects, including many important historical sites, but this image speaks to why people come to the Cape — to be near the water.
