The Dover-Sherborn boys’ soccer team defeated Norton, 2-0, on Tuesday night, snapping Norton’s 26-game unbeaten streak, which dates to Nov. 6, 2014.

Senior captain Eli Yasuna led the way with a goal and an assist .

“I’m glad it was us,’’ said Raiders coach Joe Gruseck. “The timing, going into the game, we knew they had the streak, it was a good challenge for us and I’m very proud of our team.’’

At 7:03 in the first half, senior Zack Abrams took a pass up the middle from Yasuna, before finding the back of the ne. Even with the lead, Gruseck knew his squad would have to remain active offensively to take down the defending Division 3 South champs.

“To be honest, it was one of those goals where I knew [Norton] had given up goals before and they wouldn’t just quit,’’ said Gruseck. “I knew we had to dig in a little more.’’

The Raiders did just that, as Daniel Yang ripped a shot from the outside, forcing a rebound which Yasuna would bury to give the Raiders breathing room at 14:06 of the second half.

“I think the second goal took the wind out of Norton’s sails,’’ said Gruseck. “Our team has worked really hard building up to this . . . The goal has been to get a little better every day.’’

Defensively, Gruseck credited sweeper Sam Hartley, as well as goalkeeper Robby Black, who stopped nine shots, with helping the Raiders to their second consecutive shutout.

Following the victory, Gruseck made sure his team would maintain focus moving forward.

“Obviously they were excited,’’ he said. “I told them to enjoy the win tonight, keep things in perspective and we prepare for Medfield on Thursday.’’
