If you bought a lottery ticket in Springfield at this time last year, you’d be wise to check the nooks and crannies of your purse or wallet.
A $1 million Powerball prize that has been unclaimed for almost a year expires on Monday, lottery officials said.
The winning ticket was drawn on Sept. 26, 2015, and the winner has a year from the drawing to claim a prize, according to Christian Teja, spokesman for the Massachusetts State Lottery.
The winner has until the end of the business day Monday to claim the $1 million prize, Teja said.
The ticket was purchased at the American Legion in Springfield, Teja said.
Teja said if no one comes forward to claim the winnings, the money will revert back to the lottery’s net profit, which is ultimately returned back to the state.
The winning ticket matched the winning Powerball numbers, Teja said. However, the ticket did not match the Powerball number, which would have meant an even bigger prize.
“We would really love to see someone claim this prize,’’ Teja said.
