Brian McCann hit a tying, three-run homer off Sam Dyson, Didi Gregorius capped a six-run ninth inning with his two-run shot, and the Yankees woke up late to beat the Texas Rangers, 9-7, Wednesday night in New York.
Trailing, 7-2, and in danger of falling 10 games behind AL East-leading Baltimore, the Yankees began their comeback when McCann hit a solo homer off Cesar Ramos in the eighth.
Rob Refsnyder singled off Matt Bush leading off the ninth, Jacoby Ellsbury walked, and Dyson relieved.
Brett Gardner singled and Refsnyder came home when center fielder Ian Desmond bobbled the ball for an error. After Alex Rodriguez lined out, McCann homered into the right-field bleachers, Starlin Castro walked, and Gregorius lined the ball into the right-field seats for his first career game-ending homer.
Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka gave up six runs and eight hits in six innings, raising his ERA to 3.35.
Cubs 9, Reds 2 — Anthony Rizzo legged out his first inside-the-park homer, and visiting Chicago overwhelmed Cincinnati for a three-game sweep.
With two runners aboard in the first inning, Rizzo hit a fly toward the gap. Left fielder Adam Duvall cut in front of center fielder Billy Hamilton but couldn’t make the catch, and the ball deflected off Hamilton’s cheek as Rizzo circled the bases.
Hamilton was examined on the field and left the game to get tested for a concussion.
White Sox 9, Twins 6 — James Shields broke out of a slump with 6? innings against one of baseball’s worst lineups, helping host Chicago outlast Minnesota.
Shields allowed one run and eight hits in his first win since he tossed seven scoreless innings for San Diego at Milwaukee on May 12.
Indians 3, Braves 0 — Danny Salazar threw seven scoreless innings, Lonnie Chisenhall hit his second homer of the series, and Cleveland stretched its winning streak to 12 games by shutting out host Atlanta.
Orioles 12, Padres 6 — Mark Trumbo’s two-run homer into the second deck in left field was the 55th of the month for visiting Baltimore, which pushed aside San Diego.
Trumbo hit his major league-leading 23d homer and drove in four runs for the Orioles, who won their seventh straight.
Blue Jays 5, Rockies 3 — Aaron Sanchez allowed one run in eight innings and Josh Donaldson homered to lead visiting Toronto over Colorado. Sanchez allowed six hits, struck out three, and walked two in extending his unbeaten streak to 12 games.
Astros 10, Angels 4 — Jose Altuve went 4 for 5 and scored four runs to help visiting Houston finish a three-game sweep of Los Angeles. It was the Astros’ eighth straight win over their AL West rivals, extending the longest winning streak against the Angels in franchise history.
Phillies 9, Diamondbacks 8 — Pinch hitter Tyler Goeddel hit a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning and Philadelphia completed its first sweep at Chase Field in Phoenix in 10 years with a win over Arizona.
Brewers 7, Dodgers 0 — Junior Guerra allowed two hits over eight innings, Ryan Braun hit a two-run homer and a two-run double, and Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit a two-run shot to carry host Milwaukee.
Nationals 4, Mets 2 — Daniel Murphy homered twice, tormenting his former team yet again, and host Washington completed a three-game sweep of New York.
Tigers 10, Marlins 3 — Tom Koehler gave up four runs in the first inning as Miami was routed by host Detroit.

Mariners catcher Steve Clevenger broke his right throwing hand after being hit by a foul ball in a game against Pittsburgh in Seattle. Clevenger has a fracture of the third metacarpal.
