No Games for LPGA player
Lee-Anne Pace of South Africa has withdrawn from consideration for her nation’s Olympic team out of concern about the Zika virus. Pace, ranked No. 38th in the world, is the first player on the LPGA Tour to cite Zika for sitting out of the Rio Games . . . Russian doping whistleblower Yulia Stepanova could race at next week’s European championships as the first exemption from Russia’s doping ban if an imminent IAAF ruling goes her way.

Ex-Boston winner banned
Former Boston Marathon winner Lidiya Grigoryeva has been banned for 2½ years for doping. The IAAF said the 42-year-old Grigoryeva, who won the Boston Marathon in 2007 and the Chicago Marathon in 2008, was banned under the biological passport program, which tracks suspicious blood parameters over a long period. Grigoryeva, a Russian citizen, was also a European bronze medalist in the 10,000 meters in 2006. She does not lose any major titles or medals.

Luck gets $140m from Colts
To the surprise of no one, Andrew Luck signed a new, $140 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts that covers the next six seasons through 2021. Owner Jim Irsay revealed the maximum value on Twitter, calling it the biggest contract in NFL history.
Harrison wants ‘evidence’
Steelers linebacker James Harrison wants the NFL to provide ‘‘credible evidence’’ before he agrees to an interview with league officials regarding a media report that linked him and other players to the use of performance-enhancing drugs. The NFL Players Association sent a letter on Harrison’s behalf to NFL executive Adolpho Birch asking for more information. The other active players implicated by the Al-Jazeera report are Green Bay linebackers Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers, and free agent linebacker Mike Neal, who played the past six seasons with the Packers.

Darvish may return soon
Rangers righthander Yu Darvish threw about 45 pitches in a three-inning simulated game and could return to the rotation shortly after the All-Star break. Darvish has been sidelined by shoulder discomfort since June 8 . . . The Royals placed outfielder Lorenzo Cain on the 15-day disabled list with a hamstring strain. Cain ranked fourth among AL outfielders in the latest All-Star balloting update . . . The College World Series championship game between Coastal Carolina and Arizona was postponed until Thursday because of inclement weather at Omaha. The best-of-three series is tied at a game apiece.

LeBron declines option . . .
Fear not, Cavaliers fans, LeBron James declined his player option for next season with the NBA champion Cavaliers, but the Finals MVP has made it clear he has no intention of leaving Cleveland any time soon. He had until midnight Wednesday to pick up the option, which would have paid him $24 million next season. The 31-year-old superstar has been a free agent the past three summers, electing each time to sign two-year contracts with a player option for the second season. It’s not yet clear if he’ll sign another short-term deal or a multiyear package . . . The Thunder will play two preseason games in Spain in October as part of the NBA Global Games Europe 2016 . . . In the WNBA, Tamika Catchings scored 26 points and the Indiana Fever beat the Chicago Sky, 95-83, at Rosemont, Ill. At Washington, Emma Meesseman and Tierra Ruffin-Pratt each scored 14 points and the Mystics beat the San Antonio Stars, 84-67; and Sugar Rodgers had a career-high 30 points and the New York Liberty rallied to hand the host Minnesota Lynx their third straight loss, 95-92, in OT.

Revolution topple Cosmos
Teal Bunbury scored two goals, including the winner, as the New England Revolution topped the host New York Cosmos, 3-2, to advance to the quarterfinals of the US Open Cup . . . Rich Berberian Jr. rallied to win the PGA Professional Championship at Verona, N.Y., holing a 30-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a one-stroke victory. Berberian, 28, a PGA assistant pro at Windham in Derry, N.H., topped the 20 qualifiers for the PGA Championship next month . . . The NCAA cleared up its bowl-selection process, assuring that no eligible teams with .500 records are passed over for postseason play in favor of more well-known schools with fewer than six wins.
