“Now: The Songs of Karen Carpenter’’
The last song Karen Carpenter recorded before her death in 1982 was called “Now.’’ You’ll undoubtedly be transported back to a specific moment in time at this original musical revue, which gets its premiere at Cotuit Center for the Arts. Written by the Cape’s own Ruth Condon, “The Songs of Karen Carpenter’’ uses an innovative mix of live performance, archival recordings and projected images to tell the tragic story of the 1970s pop superstar through her own music, from demos to the biggest hits.
7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, 4 p.m. Sunday through June 19. $27-30. 4404 Falmouth Rd., Cotuit. http://www.cotuitcenterforthearts.org/
Hopper House Tours
A few years back, Edward Hopper’s “October on Cape Cod’’ sold at auction for nearly $10 million. The classic American artist spent almost half his summers on the Cape, building a summer home in South Truro in 1934. For years Lisbeth Chapman has been exploring the houses and vistas that inspired Hopper on the Cape, and she spends her own summers (offseasons, too) chauffeuring art aficionados and the merely curious around the Upper Cape locations that attracted the eye of an American master.
10 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily. $59. Wellfleet Town Pier. www.hopperhousetours.com.
“Girlfriend’’
Matthew Sweet’s 1991 album “Girlfriend’’ was a heavy-hearted masterpiece, often cited on lists of the best albums of the ‘90s. The album cover featured a nostalgic photo of Tuesday Weld, but the interest Todd Almond (right) has in it revolves around his own use of the songs on mixtapes – those hand-lettered compilations that people of a certain age often made to woo an object of affection. Almond’s play about two such inarticulate, music-obsessed teenagers, set in Nebraska in the 1990s, brings its universal themes of longing and classic power-pop to the Cape.
8 p.m. Monday, Thursday-Saturday. $12-45. Julie Harris Stage at Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre, 2357 Rte. 6, Wellfleet. http://www.what.org/girlfriend/
“In My Footsteps’’
with Christopher Setterlund
A 12th generation Cape Codder, Christopher Setterlund knows a thing or two about the area. After writing books on the hidden gems of the Cape and Martha’s Vineyard, he’s about to publish his third in the series, on Nantucket. “I’ve actually gotten some grief from some people,’’ he told the Globe in 2014. “They say, ‘You’ve given away my favorite spot.’ I tell them I’ve given away a couple of mine, too.’’’

Cape Cod Baseball League
Opening Day
For one day each year, every team is in first place. It’s Opening Day in the Cape Cod Baseball League, the beloved summer session that showcases some of college baseball’s most promising big league hopefuls. Can the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, league champions last year and in 2014, defend their title to complete a three-peat? To warm up for the season, stop by the CCBL Hall of Fame (located in the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum) and see how many former Cape legends you recognize.
