SCORE: Rays 3, Red Sox 2 (10 innings)
RECORD: 3-2-1.
BREAKDOWN: Mookie Betts had a leadoff homer in the first inning for the Sox. Xander Bogaerts scored from first base in the fourth inning on a hit-and-run single by David Ortiz. Bogaerts was out by 10 feet at the plate but catcher Curt Casali fumbled the ball. Will Cuevas took the loss, allowing an RBI single by Juniel Querecuto in the 10th. The Sox loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning on three walks, but Allen Craig grounded into a force to end it.
THUMBS UP: Henry Owens pitched three scoreless innings, leaving three runners on base. Jackie Bradley Jr. singled and drew a walk in his two plate appearances. Tommy Layne struck out two of the three batters he faced.
THUMBS DOWN: Pablo Sandoval was rightfully charged with an error in the fourth inning when he made a low throw to first base. Hanley Ramirez had a play on the ball but couldn’t hold onto it after making a scoop. Sandoval had a second error in the inning when he booted a ground ball. He also is 0 for 8 in four games.
MEDICAL REPORT: Koji Uehara, who missed some early days in camp with an illness, is scheduled to pitch in a simulated game Wednesday and should be ready for a game over the weekend.
AROUND THE BASES: The Red Sox made their first cut, reassigning lefthanded reliever Danny Rosenbaum to minor league camp. He allowed two runs against Northeastern Feb. 29 and otherwise did not get into a game. The Sox now have 56 players in camp . . . Infielder Marco Hernandez (4 for 7) and first baseman Sam Travis (3 for 7) are the only players to appear in all six games. They have combined for nine RBIs.
NEXT GAME: The Sox play the Baltimore Orioles in Sarasota Tuesday at 1:05 p.m. The game will be on MLB Network.
