Rondo sits in loss to Dallas
Associated Press

Kings guard Rajon Rondo was out of the starting lineup and did not play in his first visit to Dallas since an acrimonious split with the Mavericks during the first round of the playoffs last season.

Rondo, who had back spasms during a victory at Oklahoma City on Monday, was on the bench during game warm-ups Tuesday night and watched from the sideline as the Kings fell to the Mavericks, 117-116, in double overtime.

Deron Williams had 25 points to lead Dallas and Dirk Nowitzki added 23.

DeMarcus Cousins led Sacramento with 35 points and 17 rebounds and Rudy Gay added 31 points for the Kings.

The NBA’s assists leader faced the Mavericks for the first time this season in a 112-98 victory at Sacramento in November. He had 21 points and five assists.

Dallas coach Rick Carlisle cited a back injury while saying he didn’t think Rondo would play for the Mavericks again two games into a five-game playoff loss to the Rockets last April. Carlisle and Rondo clashed several times after the point guard arrived in a midseason trade with the Celtics.

Bulls 117, Bucks 106 — Jimmy Butler had 32 points and a season-high 10 assists to lead host Chicago to a victory over Milwaukee.

Pau Gasol scored 26 points with 11 rebounds, and Taj Gibson added 11 points and 14 boards as the Bulls led the entire way in their season-best fifth straight win.

Khris Middleton scored 26 for Milwaukee, and Michael Carter-Williams finished with 20 points and 12 assists.

Knicks 107, Hawks 101 — Arron Afflalo and Carmelo Anthony both scored 23 points, and New York almost lost a 16-point lead before holding on to win in Atlanta.

The Knicks, who have won three of four, also beat the Hawks, 117-97, in New York on Sunday.

Paul Millsap led Atlanta with 19 points. Jeff Teague had 16.
