This week’s high school football picks

Billerica over Andover — BC High manhandled the Golden Warriors up front last week, clearing the path for Danny Abraham’s breakout 17-rush, 385-yard performance (in three quarters). Meanwhile, the Scott Murphy-led Indians D shut the door on Burlington.

Xaverian over Bridgewater-Raynham — The host Trojans will be revved up with the return of their commander, Dan Buron (will his larger-than-life cutouts make a return in the stands this week?). But the top-ranked Hawks exhibited their mettle, and closing ability, against Everett for their 25th straight win.

Stoughton over Marshfield — Black Knights coach Gary Burke on experience: “Senior lines usually win.’’ His five seniors certainly flexed their muscles against Franklin in a 50-plus-point opener. And all of his seniors certainly recall last year’s runover by the Rams.

King Philip over Foxborough — Can this Week 2 clash match last year’s 17-15 thriller, with the Warriors’ John Cronin drilling the winning kick with 21 seconds left? Yes. But in Wrentham, the KP D will rule.

Central Catholic over St. John’s Prep — First-year starter Mike Yarin and the Prep came of age a bit in their late rally against Haverhill. But can the Eagles cope with Central’s 3-4 defense that is relentless with pressure off the edge?

Beverly over Gloucester — Jermaine Edward had the catch of the day in a 200-plus-yard, three-TD performance for the Fishermen in a Week 1 comeback against Lynn Classical. But the yards will be harder to earn against a Panthers defense that blanked Wakefield in Andrew Morency’s debut as coach.

Cathedral over Hull — I’m following the lead of our Division 4 maven, Lenny Rowe, who trumpeted the prowess of junior receiving/return whiz Khalil Blair. His opener: 3 TDs, including a 75-yard kickoff return, 180 yards receiving, nine tackles, and a pick. ’Nuff said.

Last week’s record: 3-2.
