The matchup is set for Saturday’s Copa America quarterfinal match at Gillette Stadium – Group D winner Argentina will take on Group C runner-up Venezuela.
Argentina, the No. 1 team in FIFA’s world rankings, is led by 2015 Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi. The Barcelona forward will be making his first appearance in New England and it will be Argentina’s first time in New England since the 1994 World Cup.
Argentina went 3-0 in the group stage. Venezuela was 2-0-1, tying Mexico in its final match to fall into second place on the goal-difference tiebreaker.
Venezuela is led by West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon, who scored once in the group stage. In 21 meetings, Argentina is 20-1-0 against Venezuela.
