Henry Ellenson had 13 points and 10 rebounds, but his biggest contribution in Marquette’s 65-64 victory at No. 8 Providence College Tuesday was the block he made on Kris Dunn’s shot in the final second that handed the Friars their first Big East loss of the season.

Duane Wilson scored on a layup with 31 seconds left to give Marquette (11-4, 1-2 Big East) the 65-64 lead.

Ben Bentil scored 28 points, including 14 straight for the Friars in a key second-half run, and added nine rebounds for Providence (14-2, 2-1). Dunn had 20 points and seven assists and five rebounds for the Friars, who had climbed to their highest AP Top 25 ranking since 1977.

Men’s hockey

Yale 3, UMass 2 — John Hayden had a pair of goals, including the winner at 3:13 of overtime, to help the No. 12 Bulldogs (7-4-2) offset a pair of third-period goals by Patrick Lee (2:29) and Dominic Trento (15:57) that enabled the Minutemen (7-9-4) to tie it.

Women’s hockey

Northeastern 5, UConn 1 — Paige Savage led the No. 8 Huskies (15-4-1) with a goal and assists on third-period goals by Halle Silva and McKenna Brand.
