“Black Mass’’ missed out on another honor over the weekend. The local film — which was passed over for Oscar and Golden Globe nominations —?lost the prize for special makeup effects during the Makeup Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards to the team behind “Mad Max: Fury Road.’’ Other nominees in the category included “Ex Machina,’’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’’ and “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2.’’ Johnny Depp — who was transformed into James “Whitey’’ Bulger in “Black Mass’’ by artists Joel Harlow, Kenny Niederbaumer, and Khanh Trance — was at the show to present lifetime achievement honors to makeup artist Ve Neill (“Mockingjay — Part 2’’ and “X-Men: Days of Future Past’’) and hair stylist Yolanda Toussieng (“Insurgent’’ and “Hairspray’’).
