The Hopkinton Board of Selectmen gave the greenlight for a local company to film on a road in their town on Sept. 7, but it’s unclear what the motion picture will be. According to the application that Stephen Hartman filed with the town, Acton-based Commander Softpants Inc. is making a “high-energy, independent comedy’’ with an ensemble cast “that explores international relations at a very local level.’’ The working title of the film is “Almond Benefits 2.’’
There has been speculation that “Almond Benefits 2’’ is connected to “Super Troopers 2,’’ the long-awaited sequel to the 2001 cult comedy “Super Troopers.’’ Broken Lizard, the production company that made the original “Super Troopers,’’ launched a campaign on Indiegogo.com that raised more than $4.5 million to produce a sequel, but details of its release have been scarce. The plot hasn’t even been announced.
Interestingly enough, Hartman, who filed the application to film “Almond Benefits 2’’ in Hopkinton, is listed as the location manager for “Super Troopers 2’’ on IMDb.com. When we reached him by phone, he declined to comment on either production.
What we do know is that the Hopkinton selectmen did approve Hartman’s permit application to close off a portion of Fruit Street for a few hours to allow for filming on Sept. 7. In that same application, Hartman also wrote: “We will be filming in several communities in Massachusetts this September.’’ So stay tuned.
