Newton authorWilliam Novak — father of actor-producer-writer B.J. Novak — used his son’s app to share what it was like to work with former first lady Nancy Reagan, who died Sunday.
“During the last two years of the Reagan Administration, I worked with Nancy Reagan on her memoirs,’’ the elder Novak wrote on B.J.’s The List App, which allows people to make lists about anything. “When I was first offered the job, I asked my wife if she thought I should take it. She responded: ‘Just say yes.’ Mrs. Reagan really liked that story.’’
“My Turn: The Memoirs of Nancy Reagan’’ came out in 1989.
There are seven memories on William Novak’s list. Some detail what Reagan was like behind closed doors. “Above all, I remember her as vulnerable and grieving. She had lost both parents during the White House years, and she almost lost her husband when he was shot in 1981, although at the time almost nobody knew how seriously the President had been hurt,’’ Novak writes.
Others points on the list are about what Reagan was like as a subject. “This was a difficult book to write because Mrs. Reagan was one of those people who preferred listening to talking.’’
