Grateful alumnus looks on with sadness at current divisiveness

The Globe has rightfully pointed out that “the [Suffolk University] board needs to take steps to improve its own standing in the Suffolk community’’ (“Suffolk board needs to look hard at itself,’’ Editorial, Feb. 2).

Suffolk University was the springboard for so many kids like me, from Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, and Hyde Park, who rode the Orange Line to get our valued degrees. We got that degree, started a career, had families. We continue to watch our own kids have families, and life moves on. Suffolk played a pivotal role in our life successes.

It is painful and embarrassing to read news accounts of divisiveness, focused on Suffolk trustees whose alleged role is to serve students, faculty members, and the overall university community. The board has simply let us all down.
