A 35-year-old man died after being stabbed Tuesday morning in Dorchester, police said.
The stabbing was reported to police at 7:45 a.m. in the area of 66 Hartford St., a single-family home. Authorities described the crime as “domestic in nature,’’ but declined to give details.
The victim, whose name was not released, died at a hospital and no arrests had been made, police said.
The exterior stairs at 66 Hartford St. were roped off with yellow tape Tuesday morning, and officers could be seen going in and out. A Boston police spokesman said he did not have information about whether the deadly encounter occurred inside or outside.
A crime scene vehicle was also parked on the street.
A little before 10 a.m., officers escorted a man and a woman inside the property. A short time later, screams could be heard coming from inside.
Neighbors said officers went door to door, asking whether anyone had heard a commotion.
Walter Miller, who lives on Hartford Street, said police told him there was a fight.
“What the fight was over, I don’t know,’’ he said. “I don’t know who lives there.’’
Jonathan Bullock, who also lives nearby, said violence was unusual in the neighborhood. He noted the area was “exceptionally quiet’’ Tuesday morning.
A woman who declined to give her name said police told her there had been a stabbing.
“I was shocked,’’ she said. “I wasn’t expecting to hear that kind of news.’’
Another woman, who also declined to give her name, said she learned of the deadly attack from police. “I was surprised that all of this happened,’’ she said. “I slept through it.’’
