One man was killed and two others were injured during an early morning shooting in Dorchester, according to Boston police.
The three men, all in their 20s, were shot near Nightingale and Wales streets around 2:18 a.m., said Officer James Kenneally, a Boston police spokesman.
One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the two others were transported to area hospitals with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, Kenneally said.
The shootings are under active investigation and no arrests have been made, he said.
Late Saturday morning, a child played in the doorway of a house on Nightingale Street as Boston police officers stood across the street near a cruiser.
“I just heard the gunfire,’’ said a man sitting on the steps of a house with a woman. She said they knew the person who died. “It sucks,’’ said the man quietly.
Another neighbor said he woke up around 5 a.m. to flashing lights and that was unusual.
“It usually is [a safe neighborhood],’’ he said.
Other neighbors, however, said the area struggles with crime.
“This neighborhood is dangerous,’’ said Kevon Allen, 23.
Allen, who said he has lived in Dorchester for 16 years, said the neighborhood where the three men were shot has been plagued by shootings.
