First lighthouse: The public is invited to a free celebration of the 300th birthday of Boston Light, the country’s first lighthouse, on Wednesday, Sept. 14. The Coast Guard Band will play at 6 p.m at the athletic field at Hull High School. The field opens at 4:30 p.m; parking is available at the Hull Lifesaving Museum. Opossums: Mass Audubon invites children ages 3-5, accompanied by a caregiver, to learn about opossums through songs, stories, crafts, and more. The event will be held Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the North River Wildlife Sanctuary. It costs $7 per child ($5 for member children). NORWELL
Corn festival: The South Shore Natural Science Center will hold the 40th Annual Corn Festival Saturday, Sept. 17, and Sunday, Sept. 18. There will be music, pony rides, and other activities for kids. The festival will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day; the cost for those who aren’t members of the center or the South Shore YMCA is $8 for children, and $10 for adults.
