Revolution forward Diego Fagundez has signed a multiyear contract with the team, according to team sources. Terms were not announced, but one source confirmed the deal is for three years plus an option year.

Fagundez, who turns 21 next month, earned a $125,000 base salary and $152,200 in “guaranteed compensation’’ last season, according to the MLS Players Union.

Last year, Fagundez scored six goals and had a late-season, four-game scoring streak. In 2013, Fagundez totaled 13 goals, becoming the youngest player to lead the Revolution in scoring. In 118 career games, Fagundez has scored 28 goals, seventh on the all-time team list.

Fagundez grew up in Leominster and played for the Revolution Academy, signing his first professional contract as a 15-year-old, and scoring a goal in his debut, a 3-2 loss to Chivas USA Aug. 6, 2011. In 2008, Fagundez emerged on the US junior national team scene, making several appearances before it was revealed that he was not a citizen. Fagundez has since gained green card status but is still not eligible for the national team, last year playing for Uruguay in South American U20 World Cup qualifying.
