Johnson passing on Rio over Zika

Dustin Johnson, the second-ranked golfer in the world, announced Friday night he will not play in the Rio Olympics because of his concerns with the Zika virus. Jason Day (No. 1) and Rory McIlroy (No. 4) already have declined to play. Jordan Spieth (No. 2) has not announced his decision . . . Sung Hyun Park, playing in just her fourth LPGA tournament of the year, shot a 6-under-par 66 to take a two-stroke lead after the second round of the US Women’s Open at San Martin, Calif. Amy Yang shot a 71 and finished tied for second with first-round leader Mirim Lee. World No. 1 Lydia Ko is tied with Haru Nomura for fourth . . . At the Scottish Open, Alex Noren of Sweden shot a 6-under 66 to take a one-stroke lead after the second round at Inverness. Danny Lee (66) and Eddie Pepperell (67) were a shot behind Noren, who had an 8-under 136. Phil Mickelson and Henrik Stenson made the cut.

UFC 200

Jones’ backup positive too

Jon Jones could face a multiyear suspension from USADA and the Nevada Athletic Commission after his backup sample confirmed the positive doping results that forced the UFC to drop the pound-for-pound star from his main-event bout at Saturday night’s UFC 200. Without Jones, Miesha Tate’s bantamweight title defense against Amanda Nunes was promoted to the final fight.

Cummings wins 7th stage

British rider Steve Cummings won the seventh stage at the Tour de France on a day an inflatable arch marking the final kilometer collapsed on top of Britain’s Adam Yates, who still finished the stage. Organizers took finishing times 3 kilometers from the finish of the leg, putting Yates in second overall. Greg Van Avermaet of Belgium kept the yellow jersey.

Baseball

Mets’ Harvey out for year

The Mets said pitcher Matt Harvey will have season-ending surgery for his thoracic outlet syndrome injury . . . Major League Baseball announced that Bartolo Colon and Max Scherzer will replace Madison Bumgarner and Steven Strasburg, respectively, in Tuesday’s All-Star Game.

Olympics

Kenyans face investigation

A pair of 18-year-old high schoolers, Michael Norman and Noah Lyles, made the final of the 200 meters at the US trials in Eugene, Ore. Evan Jager (3,000-meter steeplechase), Mason Finley (discus), and Brianna Rollins (100-meter hurdles) qualified for the Olympic team. . . . South Korea’s Olympic committee lifted its ban on Park Tae-hwan, allowing the former Olympic swimming champion to compete in Rio despite having been caught doping . . . Three more weightlifters, Sardar Hasanov of Azerbaijan, Tigran Martirosyan of Armenia and Sibel Ozkan of Turkey, tested positive for doping at the 2008 Olympics. Hasanov is the third Azeri weightlifter to retest positive, which could get the team banned from Rio.

Free agents make it official

Many signings took place, including free agent forward Derrick Williams with the Miami Heat, former Warriors swingman Brandon Rush with the Timberwolves, Mirza Teletovic with the Bucks, and Chandler Parsons with the Grizzlies . . . The Clippers re-signed free agents Jamal Crawford, Austin Rivers, Luc Mbah a Moute and Wesley Johnson while the Spurs traded Boris Diaw, a 2022 second-round pick, and cash to the Jazz for 2015 second-rounder and ex-BC star Olivier Hanlan. . . Bill Laimbeer became the seventh WNBA coach to reach 200 wins when the Liberty defeated the Sky, 88-85 . . .The Storm snapped a three-game losing streak to beat the Stars, the Dream beat the Wings 95-90 and the Fever beat the Mercury 78-60.

Blatter appeal hearing set

The Court of Arbitration for Sport set former FIFA president Sepp Blatter’s appeal hearing date for Aug. 25. Blatter will challenge his six-year ban from soccer . . . In MLS, Houston and Orlando City played to a scoreless tie.

Broncos up offer to LB Miller

The Denver Broncos reportedly boosted their offer to Super Bowl MVP Von Miller, who has threatened to sit out the 2016 season rather than play on the on the $14.26 million exclusive franchise tag tender. The sides have a week to work out a different deal . . . SMU athletic director Rick Hart said Larry Brown had been offered a new deal through 2020 but turned it down . . . Kyle Busch led 185 laps and won the 300-mile NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Kentucky Speedway . . . The Avalanche signed Nathan MacKinnon to a seven-year deal . . . Kevin Harvick was awarded the pole position for Saturday night’s Sprint Cup Series race based on owner points after storms washed out qualifying at Kentucky Speedway . . .
