The 28-year-old was runner-up in the Massachusetts State Triathlon held at the Lake Dennison Recreation Area in Winchendon on July 10. Alford was 22 seconds off the pace of Amesbury’s Robert Hollinger (1:48:57.8).

A rising senior on the women’s track-and-field team at Bowdoin, she earned a gold medal in the javelin at the Bay State Summer Games with a throw of 127 feet, 1 inch. The Dedham High grad also placed fourth in the discus.

The head professional at Thorny Lea Golf Club, he tied for first in the NEPGA Pro-Am on his home course with Frank Dully (Salem CC), firing a 1-under-par 69 (35-34). He also led his squad to the best-ball title at 13 under.
