BCT gets $100,000 grant from Disney

Forget the fjords of “Frozen’’ and the bells of Notre Dame; the real Walt Disney magic is right here in Boston. Through a grant from Disney, Boston Children’s Theatre will get $100,000 to help 10 Boston public elementary schools bring their favorite Disney fables to life on stage. The move is part of the company’s “Disney Musicals in Schools’’ outreach initiative, and will fully fund kid-size productions of Disney stage shows — including “The Jungle Book’’ and “Aladdin’’ — at five schools this year and five next. BCT will select the schools, as well as help Disney host a 17-week training program through which teachers will learn to produce their schools’ shows. (That leaves it up to the students, of course, to bring the starpower.) Applications for schools are at www.boston childrenstheatre.org/disney.
