Revolution goal: Get on the board
Team is desperate for offense, win

Following a winless August in which they scored only one goal, the Revolution will try once again to get their offense going when they host Western Conference heavyweight Colorado on Saturday night.

With the Revolution in arguably their worst slide (0-5-1) since an eight-match winless run in 2014, they will try to bounce back the same way they did two years ago: with a home victory over Colorado.

The Revolution (6-12-9, eighth in the Eastern Conference) took to the road last week for a pair of games. Last Wednesday in San Jose, despite a dominant performance by New England, the game against the Earthquakes ended in a 0-0 draw.

Last Sunday, the Revolution returned to the East Coast for a rivalry game against the New York Red Bulls. New York’s relentless attack paid off in the second half as Bradley Wright-Phillips finished the rebound of an Alex Muyl shot for the game’s only goal.

Colorado (11-4-10, tied for second in the West) is also coming off a loss to its rival, Real Salt Lake, last Friday. After an early goal by Rapids striker Shkelzen Gashi, Salt Lake battled back with two goals from Yura Movsisyan to defeat Colorado, 2-1.

New England and Colorado have not met in 17 months — not since the Revolution took a 2-0 road victory in April 2015. Juan Agudelo scored an early stunner and Lee Nguyen’s second-half penalty assured New England of all 3 points.

Since the start of this season, Sept. 3 was a date circled on the calendar by many Revolution supporters. It was supposed to be the day former Revolution midfielder, designated player, and captain Jermaine Jones returned to Foxborough following an offseason contract dispute and exit.

Jones’s final match in New England colors was a less-than-memorable playoff loss to D.C. United in which the midfielder charged referee Mark Geiger after a controversial missed handball. Jones was ejected and suspended for six matches for his antics.

But Jones was injured in a July 4 collision with Portland defender Alvas Powell and is not expected to play.

“Right now, we’re preparing for a big game,’’ said New England coach Jay Heaps. “We’re focused on ourselves right now and preparing ourselves for a good Colorado team.’’
