Nineteen teams pitched ideas Sunday to help combat the country’s rising opioid epidemic during a hack-a-thon. After the competition, five teams walked away with $1,000 each to turn their conceptual innovations into reality — and the potential to win an even larger award later.

The winners were announced Tuesday:

■ RxReturn won the Innovation Award for a notification system that reminds patients via text messages to dispose of expired medications.

■ Team Ally won the Anti-Stigma Award for a social innovation that allows community responders to make naloxone quickly available when and where it is needed.

■ ReadyACCESSviaSMS won the Solution Award for an anonymous text-messaging system that increases access to life-saving resources and information.

■ MATmobile won the Treatment On-Demand Award for a treatment van that would visit areas known for drug use and offer help to those who are struggling.

■ The 3rd Place won the Community Building Award for creating a safe and welcoming meeting and activity space that would act as a “hub’’ for those in recovery.

The three-day hack-a-thon, hosted by the GE Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital, also featured policy discussions with state and federal officials, as well as with those whose lives have been ravaged by opioids.

The GE Foundation will award $10,000 to the team that makes the most progress in the next three months.
