Weymouth tightens up
Defense adjusts to sink Needham

Behind the play of senior Allie Reynolds, Weymouth snuck by Needham, 59-57, in their first game of the new year.

Reynolds went 3 for 4 in the closing minutes and finished with a game-high 23 points, 7 assists, and 6 steals.

Weymouth coach Christy Hay, knew the first thing the Wildcats (4-3) needed to do coming into this game was to play tighter defense. “They are a quick team,’’ said Hay. “We needed to play a tight defense and keep up.’’

The game was back and forth throughout the first half and Weymouth took a 28-25 lead into the break.

Hay said that “we adjusted to their defense’’ going into the second half, and Weymouth began to pull away in the fourth quarter.

Needham (3-3) stormed back, hitting some outside shots and tying the game at 57. But with only six seconds remaining, Reynolds was fouled and sent to the free-throw line where she sank both shots to seal the victory..

Senior Veronica Mackin added 9 points and nine rebounds for Weymouth.

Hanover 74, Silver Lake 43 — Senior Stephanie Flynn scored her 1,000th point in the victory.

Woburn 52, Belmont 51 — Junior Marissa Tattuso had 18 points, including a free throw with one second left that gave the Tanners (5-0) the victory.

Bishop Feehan 78, Bishop Stang 22 — Junior Katie Nelson was the leading scorer with 16 points for the Shamrocks (6-1).

Revere 70, Peabody 54 — Sophomore Valentina Tepit had 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Patriots (6-0).

Wayland 54, Waltham 39 — Senior Bronwyn Davies had 24 points and 12 rebounds and junior Ellery Kiefer had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Warriors.

Newton South 60, Westford 52 — Emily Chang and Veronica Burton combined for 40 points for the Lions (6-0).

Walpole 45, Milton 27 — Junior Kelly Fogarty led the Rebels (4-3) with 17 points.

Pope John 68, St. Clement 41 — Senior Gianni Hill had 23 points and eight steals to lead the Tigers (3-5).

Shawsheen 52, Essex Tech 40 — Senior Holly DeCourcey had 18 points and junior Danielle Papa had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Rams.

Falmouth Academy 65, Cape Cod Tech 24 — Sophomore Kendall Currence scored 24 points to lead the Mariners (7-0).

Wellesley 53, Norwood 41 — Junior Dorian Cohen led the Raiders (7-0) with 17 points.

Chase Collegiate 58, Bourne 44 — The Highlanders (2-3) were led by senior Ally Dicesare’s 23 points.

Hamilton-Wenham 60, Manchester Essex 42 — Junior Cait Bradford led the Generals (3-2) with 13 points. Junior Kelly Walsh added 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Pentucket 47, Triton 31 — Senior Riley Holden had 13 points and senior Carolyn Modlish added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Sachems (5-0).

Pembroke 76, Whitman-Hanson 50 — Freshman Vanessa DeSimmone had 13 points and junior Allison Comeau had 18 for the Titans in the win.

Ashland 64, Millis 48 — Senior Sam Leone scored 21 points for the Clockers (4-1).

Falmouth 54, Marshfield 47 — Senior Taylor Miller recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds for Falmouth (3-1).

Duxbury 52, North Quincy 34 — Sophomore Nicole Callander scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Dragons (3-3).

Cambridge 65, Boston Latin 27 — Senior Yuleska Ramirez had 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals for the Falcons (4-1).

Plymouth North 48, Scituate 35 — Junior Joie Grassi led the Eagles (5-2) with 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists.

Hingham 55, Middleborough 34 — The sister duo of senior Sydney and sophomore Haley Blasetti combined for 30 points for the Harbormen (4-2).

Bridgewater-Raynham 63, New Bedford 39 — Junior Kelly Paige led the Trojans (3-4) with 15 points and four rebounds.

Medfield 60, Bellingham 17 — Sophomore Maggie McCarthy led the way with 19 points and seven rebounds for the Warriors (5-2).

Braintree 69, Framingham 25 — Junior Keelah Dixon had 17 points for the Wamps.

North Reading 66, Lynnfield 27 — Senior Jess Lezon’s 19 points carried the Hornets (6-1).

Arlington 53, Reading 34 — Junior Rosalie Flinn had 14 points for the Spy Ponders (3-4).

Georgetown 48, Ipswich 41 — Senior Cayla Durkee led the Royals (4-2) with 16 points and four assists.

Hull 57, Carver 45 — Alexia Hansen had 16 points and 10 rebounds in the Pirates (5-0) double-overtime win.

Mt. Alvernia 58, Saint Joseph Prep 35 — Junior Luca Pelligrini scored 20 points for the Mustangs.

Cohasset 57, Monomoy 26 — Senior Emily Rosano led the Skippers (3-2) with 19 points. Senior Megan Rosano added 17 points.

Danvers 38, Beverly 35 — Junior Julia McNulty carried the Falcons (2-3) with 19 points, including five 3-pointers.

Quincy 54, Plymouth South 43 — Senior Nicole Jorgensen had 24 points for the Presidents.

Worcester North 71, Tahanto 38 — Sophomore Stevanna Bowhile had 17 points, 25 rebounds and 6 steals, while senior Tamiah Hutchful had 28 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals and freshman Leilani Rodriguez chipped in 23 points as the host Polar Bears (6-!) downed the Stags (5-3). Rachel Wilhelmy and Mary Kate O'Day each scored 14 for Tahanto.

Quaboag 51, Bartlett 30 — Lexi Paquette scored 18 points to lead the Cougars (3-2, 3-2 SWCL) to a road win. Isabelle Lathrop led the Indians (2-6, 1-6) with 12 points.

Blackstone-Millville 57, Nipmuc 48 — Senior Sarah DeWolfe scored nine of her 20 points in the third quarter and sophomore Taylor McNamara added 18 points to lead the visiting Chargers (4-2, 2-0 Dual Valley) past the Warriors (1-6, 0-2). Nipmuc’s Taylor Leacy scored all of her team-high 13 points in the first quarter, and teammates Hannah Barrows (12 points) and Kylie Gallagher (11 points) also contributed.

Leominster 61, Fitchburg 27 — Jordan Valliere (17 points) and Arianna Bilotta (12 points) both tallied eight points in the second half to help the visiting No. 10 Blue Devils (3-2, 2-1 Midland A) pull away from the Red Raiders (0-5, 0-3). Leominster outscored Fitchburg, 35-7, in the second half. Nicole Romero collected 13 points and three steals for Fitchburg. Leominster’s Rylee Skinner added 11 points.

Millbury 42, Northbridge 13 — Keryn Reno led the way with 14 points, but the visiting Woolies had their defense on display, giving up just eight points in the first half and five in the second as No. 5 Millbury (5-1, 5-0 SWCL) cruised past the Rams (5-1, 4-1).

Oakmont 54, Gardner 41 — Senior Erica Ulrich scored 10 of her game-high 14 points in the third quarter and junior Erika Hall added 13 points to propel the host Spartans (7-1, 3-0 Wachusett C) past the Wildcats (2-5, 0-3). Oakmont freshman Kylie Lison scored 12 points and classmate Hannah Cravedi added 11 points. Erin Mack scored 12 points for Gardner.

Bromfield 60, Maynard 40 — Senior captian Amanda Accorsi had 21 points and 16 rebounds, while junior Lexi Norcross scored 13 of her 18 points in the first half to lead the host Trojans (4-4, 1-2 Wachusett D) got past the Tigers (1-5, 0-2). Bromfield freshman Nicole Lemieux scored nine points and six rebounds in her varsity debut. Camielle Massara scored 13 points to lead Maynard.

West Boylston 42, Murdock 10 — Emma O'Malley and Sarah Maino each scored 12 points to pace the host Lions (3-2, 2-0 Wachusett D). Molly Murphy had eight points for the Blue Devils (1-6, 0-4).

Groton-Dunstable 49, Nashoba 41 — Junior captain Hannah Van Pelt (15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals), senior captain Jenna Plausse (9 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists) and sophomore Jordan Wynn (8 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals) powered the No. 6 Crusaders (7-0, 5-0 Midland B) past the visiting No. 8 Chieftains (3-4, 3-2). Ellie Eisenklam added 10 points for Groton-Dunstable. Sarah Gillooly led Nashoba with 10 points.

Shepherd Hill 49, Algonquin 42 — Meaghan Turner had 15 points and Bailey Savage scored 14 to lift the visiting Rams (2-3, 1-1 Midland A). Elyssa Nichols and Caroline Leonard both scored 13 points for the Tomahawks (2-3, 2-1).

Wachusett 47, Shrewsbury 26 — Junior Hannah Everidge led the top-ranked Mountaineers (4-1) with 17 points, and Mya Mosley and Laura Vinton each scored eight for the victors. Lauren Power’s nine points paced the Colonials (2-5).

Westborough 62, Hudson 35 — Julia Hutchinson had 14 points and Haley Brown added 12 to lead the Rangers (1-4, 1-4 Midland B). Maclaine Campbell notched 10 points for the host Hawks (0-6, 0-4).

Monty Tech 45, Advanced Math and Science 30 — Freshman Erica Regan scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half and added five steals to help the visiting Bulldogs (4-1, 4-1 Colonial) rally to defeat the Eagles (2-3, 1-2). Senior Megan Skinner scored 11 points for Monty Tech, who trailed by 9 points at halftime but outscored AMSA, 31-7, in the second half. AMSA’s Arin Small scored a game-high 15 points.

Marlborough 58, North Middlesex 49 — The No. 7 Panthers went 10 for 11 from the charity stripe in overtime to secure the win over the No. 9 Patriots. Jill Petrie led Marlboro (6-2, 2-2 Midland B) with 17 points and Sarah Popivchak added 11, including four free throws in overtime. Hadley Beauregard notched a game-high 18 points for North Middlesex (5-2, 2-2).

Lunenburg 71, Clinton 19 — Kylie Hill scored 16 points and Sarah Blomgren added 14 points as the visiting Blue Knights (6-1, 2-0 Wachusett C) topped the Gaels (2-5, 0-2). Neleesha Meunier led Clinton with eight points.

Parker Charter 65, Bay Path 42 — Paige Senatore had a game-high 18 points, Tina Heer dumped in 17 and Riley Sanderson chipped in 12 points to lift the host Panthers (5-0) over the Minutemen (3-2). Bryanna Waskiewicz scored 14 points and Gina Houghton added 11 points to lead Bay Path.

Burncoat 40, Worcester Tech 21 — Maire Gallagher scored 17 points and Katie Pasquale added 10 points to lead the Patriots (1-4) past the host Eagles (0-5). Teammate Carlie Scutt grabbed 10 rebounds.

Burlington 81, Melrose 71 — Junior Will Melanson scored 26 points for the Red Devils.

Newton North 62, Brookline 46 — Senior Michael Davis had 21 points and 10 rebounds and sophomore Ethan Wright added 22 points and five rebounds for the Tigers (6-1).

Archbishop Williams 53, Bishop Fenwick 51 — Senior F Ryan Lavallee converted an offensive rebound to a layup with one second left to win the game for the Bishops (3-6).

Reading 62, Arlington 42 — Guards Chris Merullo and Matt Panacopoulos combined for 38 points to carry the Rockets (4-1).

Mystic Valley 62, Lynn Tech 51 — Senior center Matt O'Connor had 21 points and 15 rebounds for the Eagles (5-1).

Matignon 70, Lowell Catholic 65 — Sophomore Mohammed Traore and senior Mike Kalton led the Warriors (5-0) with 21 points each.

Quincy 68, Plymouth South 65 — Senior Quinlan Evans was the high scorer for the Presidents (5-2) with 15 points.

Cathedral 74, Arlington Catholic 44 — Sophomore Moses Flowers led the Panthers (9-0) with 14 points.

Apponequet 48, Fairhaven 25 — Junior Dylan Sheedy had 15 points and eight assists for the Lakers (5-2).

North Reading 54, Lynnfield 48 — Senior Adam Goldstein led the Fighting Hornets (6-0) with 19 points and 15 rebounds.

St. Clement 63, Pope John 61 — Larnel Coleman had 27 points and 21 rebounds while Dan Murphy added 21 points and 10 assists in the overtime win for the Anchormen (2-1).

Wakefield 64, Wilmington 63 — Junior Kobe Nadeau recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Warriors.

Carver 55, Hull 35 — Senior Sean Willis led the Crusaders (4-3) with 18 points. Junior Chris Willis added 15 points.

Greater New Bedford 63, Seekonk 59 — Jordan Rose-Wheatley scored 22 points for the Bears (1-5).

Peabody 61, Revere 36 — Matt D'Amato scored 13 points to lead the Tanners (2-3).

Concord-Carlisle 67, Weston 48 — Senior Eric Sellew recorded 23 points for the Patriots (5-1).

Natick 85, Dedham 80 — Guards Peter Ryan and Zach Lebowitz combined for 33 points for the Red Hawks (2-7).

Monty Tech 62, Advanced Math and Science 45 — Senior Kyle Morris recorded 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists as the host Bulldogs (3-2, 2-2 Colonial) put together an 18-0 run between the third and fourth quarters to beat the Eagles (1-4, 0-3). Monty Tech sophomore Charles Kelley scored eight of his 10 points in the fourth quarter and junior Matt Lucas added 10 points. Zach Meyer (17 points), Chris Reynolds (12 points) and Rikvan Jhamb (11 points) paced AMSA.

Shrewsbury 51, Burncoat 46 — Steve Vayda netted 12 of his game-high 20 points in the first half and Paul Durkee scored 12 points as the visiting Colonials (2-4) held off the Patriots (1-5). Unique Jackson scored 18 points for Burncoat, who cut an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit down to three in the final minutes of the game.

Doherty 62, Worcester North 53 — Tariq Massenburg scored 14 of his game-high 32 points in the fourth quarter, while Marquise Jones and Devaughn Mitchell each scored nine as the host Highlanders (2-4, 2-0 Inter-High) topped the Polar Bears (2-5, 1-1). David Jones had 20 points to lead North, while teammate Ed Rodriguez had 16 points and Micah Kibler scored 10.

University Park 66, Blackstone Valley 44 — Luis Ojeda Jr. notched 24 points and Stephon Baxter added 16 points to propel the host Cougars (5-1, 4-0 Colonial). John Adams scored 17 points for the visiting Beavers (1-2, 1-1).

Nipmuc 60, Blackstone-Millville 45 — Sophomore Kyle Downing recorded 10 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the host Warriors (5-2, 2-0 Dual Valley) past the Chargers (1-5, 0-1). Bernard Broni scored a game-high 14 points for Nipmuc and teammate Thomas Sperino added 12 points. Tremon Walker led Blackstone-Millville with 10 points.

Tantasqua 64, David Prouty 37 — Griffin Brooks had 21 points and J.J. Howland scored 15 to lead the host Warriors (6-1, 5-1 SWCL). Both players also grabbed 7 rebounds. Kyle Driscoll netted 14 points for the visiting Panthers (5-3, 3-3).

Hopedale 49, Whitinsville Christian 44 — Brian Espanet had 20 points and Chris Carron had 10 points and nine rebounds to lift the host Blue Raiders (6-2, 2-0 Dual Valley). Owen Brookhouse notched 13 points for the visiting Crusaders (2-3, 0-1).

Abby Kelley Foster 60, Keefe Tech 55 — Sultan Adebisi (12 points), Emeka Egwuatu (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Emmanuel Nyarko (10 points) led the visiting Bears (4-2, 2-2 Colonial). Angel Roche netted a game-high 14 points for the Broncos (2-3, 1-2).

Holy Name 78, St. Bernard’s 62 — Senior Jerry Magorombo collected 30 points and 11 rebounds to power the visiting No. 6 Naps (6-2, 1-1 Central Mass.) past the Bernardians (2-6, 0-2). Devandre Edmonds netted 14 points for Holy Name and teammate Dhalyn Sanders-Dyer dished out 11 assists. Joe Saba (25 points), Parker Bigelow (14 points) and Marcus Babineau (13 points) led St. Bernard's.

Marlborough 58, North Middlesex 20 — Brian Short led all scorers with 17 points to lift the top-ranked Panthers (6-1) over the visiting Patriots (3-4). Zach Collins’ had eight points to lead the Pats.

Oakmont 37, Gardner 36 — Sophomore Karamo Sillah hit two late free throws in the final seconds to help the host Spartans (3-4, Wachusett C) edge the Wildcats (4-2, 1-1). Jamison Dunn led all scorers with 11 points for Oakmont. Gardner’s Kyle Long scored eight points.

Leominster 69, Fitchburg 38 — Jamie Gonzalez’ team-high 10 points led a balanced scoring attack for the eighth-ranked Blue Devils (3-4, 2-1 Midland A). Beethovan Castillo added nine points for the Devils, while the Red Raiders’ (1-5, 0-3) Tyri Hampton’s 16 points led all scorers.

Westborough 75, Hudson 31 — A.J. Nowak (11 points, 4 assists), Vinny Rosa (8 points, 6 rebounds) and Matt Doherty (7 points, 7 rebounds) powered the host Rangers (4-4, 2-3 Midland B) past the Hawks (1-7, 0-5). Jason Hurkmans netted 10 points for Westboro. Hudson’s D.J. Bass scored a team-high 11 points.

West Boylston 59, Murdock 33 — Senior captain Andy Proietti had 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Max O'Day chipped in 11 points as the host Lions (6-1, 2-0 Wachusett D) notched 18 assists to top the Blue Devils (0-7, 0-3). Daunte Pridgen scored eight points to lead Murdock.

Maynard 65, Bromfield 44 — Chris Bastien and Corey Oliver both scored 14 points to lift the Tigers (6-0, 3-0 Wachusett D) past the visiting Trojans (3-3, 1-2). Teammate Cal Howes netted 13 points and Eric Kiley scored 11. Jack Frackiewicz had a game-high 18 points for Bromfield.

Ayer Shirley 61, Narragansett 48 — Jon Durban had a game-high 24 points and Jeffrey Gendron added 18 points to lead the Panthers (2-4) past the visiting Warriors (2-5). Eric Thomas had 23 points for Narragansett.

Nashoba 59, Groton-Dunstable 41 — Andrew Snoddy had 15 points and seven steals, while Trevor Manyak added 13 points and Tony Kennon 12 to lead the No. 7 Chieftains (5-1, 4-1 Midland B) past the visiting Crusaders (4-3, 4-1). Gavin Keough led Groton-Dunstable with 15 points.

Clinton 49, Lunenburg 48 — Andy Duggan converted a turnover into the winning basket with 9 seconds left, as the visiting Gaels (3-3) held on to edge the Blue Knights (2-6). Ortiz finished with eight points, while Brendan Dion and Duggan both added 10 points for Clinton. Lunenburg’s Kody Thiphavong dumped in a game-high 20 points and Drew Thibeault added 15 for the Blue Knights, whose shot to win it at the buzzer was short.

Shepherd Hill 69, Algonquin 66 — Michael Rapoza scored 31 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the No. 9 Rams (4-2, 2-0 Midland A) past the visiting No. 10 Tomahawks (3-3, 2-1). Teammate John Packard notched 16 points and Jason O'Regan added 10. Jake Clark led Algonquin with 18 points and Jason Truax and Dylan Stekiewicz both scored 12.

St. John’s (Shrewsbury) 84, St. Peter-Marian 40 — Adham Floyd scored 17 of his game-high 19 points in the first half, while Joe Murphy scored 16 as the host Pioneers (7-1, 1-0 Central Mass) bounced back from its first loss of the season with a convincing win over the No. 5 Guardians (4-3, 2-1). T.J. Darton had 11 points to lead St. Peter-Marian.

Tyngsborough 53, Littleton 42 — Drew Hurynowicz led all scorers with 28 points and Craig Robinson added 15 points to pace visiting Tyngsboro (4-2, 1-1 Wachusett C) past Littleton (6-2, 1-1). Joe Fontanella and Christian Watson both scored 11 points for Littleton.

Bay Path 47, Parker Charter 31 — Seniors Cory Powers (14 points) and Jeremy Rabidou (10 points) helped the host Minutemen (4-3, 2-2 Colonial) end the game on a 17-4 run to defeat the Panthers (1-4, 0-3). Parker’s Devin McNamara scored a team-high 13 points.

Boys’ swimming

Weston 94, Acton-Boxboro 92 — Austin Critchlow won the 200 Individual Medley (2:02.21) and the 100 backstroke (55.88 seconds) for the Wildcats.

North Andover 98, Lowell 88 — David O'Leary won both the 100 freestyle (56.48 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (1:06.32) for North Andover.

St. John’s (Shrewsbury) 93, Xaverian 84 — Senior Jon Hoey scored his first varsity points in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle to lead the visiting Pioneers (2-3).

Algonquin 98, Shrewsbury 61 — Freshman Matt Beland won the 200 freestyle (2:00.72) and the 500 freestyle (5:25.53), while senior Kevin Shi captured the 50 freestyle (22.95) and the 100 butterfly (56.59), both times qualifying him for the state meet, to lead the Tomahawks (4-1, 4-1 Mid-Wach) past the Colonials (1-4, 1-4) at Clark University.

Girls’ swimming

Algonquin 104, Shrewsbury 60 — Senior Isabelle Seppa won the 200 freestyle (2:09.63) and the 500 freestyle (5:57.22), qualifying her for the sectional meet in both events, while classmate Mackenzie Hostage won the 50 freestyle (26.94) to make the sectional meet and she also won the 100 freestyle (1:01.84) as the Tomahawks (5-0, 5-0 Mid-Wach) downed the Colonials (1-4, 1-4) at Clark University.
