Openings: K2 Cafe has opened in Kendall Square (500 Kendall Square at Athenaeum Street), overseen by former Anthem Kitchen + Bar chef Ben Hennemuth. Look for salmon and avocado toasts; stuffed baked potatoes; unusual caffeinated beverages (cola with an espresso shot, for instance); salads; and smoothies from 7 a.m. onward every weekday.

The Savage Wiener has popped up within Sandwich Works in Newton, specializing in (presumably mild-mannered) hot dogs (827 Beacon St. at Centre Street) made with steak and wagyu beef, topped with relish, mustard, sauerkraut, and other delicacies. The shop will hopefully expand to a standalone concept soon; for now, it’s open Monday through Saturday.

Coming Soon: Luke’s Lobster will open a second Boston location later this summer in Downtown Crossing (290 Washington St. at Water Street). The New York-based seafood shanty run by Maine lobsterman Luke Holden also has a Back Bay outpost.

Closings: North End mainstay Carmen has closed, according to a voicemail message at the restaurant (33 North Sq. at North Street). All is not lost: The romantic spot will reopen in another location soon.

Anniversaries: The South End’s Banyan Bar + Refuge — Asian-inflected sibling to The Gallows and Blackbird Doughnuts — celebrates its first birthday with a luau on July 25 (553 Tremont St. at Clarendon Street). Don a lei, sip tiki drinks, and feast on Hawaiian treats like Spam fried rice, grilled octopus poke bowls, and slow-roasted pork in banana leaves. Make reservations from 5 p.m. onward.

Collaborations: Plant-based ice cream shop FoMu will launch a partnership with several local chefs throughout the summer and fall. Look for unusual, limited-edition flavors from The Smoke Shop’s Andy Husbands (sweet tea with peach and ginger), Banyan Bar + Refuge’s Phillip Tang (dark chocolate chili cashew), Alden & Harlow’s Michael Scelfo (roasted parsnip, salted caramel, and dried cherry), and more. Find the flavors at FoMu’s brick-and-mortar shops in Allston, Jamaica Plain, and the South End.
