For the record

¦ Correction: Because of a reporting error, a Page One story on May 15 about MIT physicist Rainer Weiss and the discovery of gravitational waves misstated the time that the landmark detection was made last Sept. 14. The detection occurred at 4:50 a.m. locally at LIGO’s Louisiana observatory. The Globe regrets the error.
