Three New England Revolution players were selected for the provisional 40-man rosters of their home nations for the 2016 Copa America Centenario.
Midfielder Lee Nguyen (United States), defender Je-Vaughn Watson (Jamaica), and midfielder Zachary Herivaux (Haiti) have a chance to earn spots on their countries’ 23-player squads for the June 3-26 tournament.
This will be Nguyen’s second go at the Copa America. The 29-year-old made two appearances for the United States in the last Copa America in 2007. Nguyen has started nine games for the Revolution this season, netting one goal and two assists.
It is also Watson’s second Copa America bid. He made one appearance in the last tournament and has appeared in 52 games for Jamaica. Watson has played in eight games for the Revolution this season and has one assist.
Herivaux, 20, has made five appearances with the Haitian U-20 team. He was signed to New England’s Revolution Academy, the team’s developmental program, and made his MLS debut on March 20 against Philadelphia, his only appearance this season.
Teams have until May 20 to trim rosters to 23 players. Copa America games will be played in 10 US locations, including at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.
