A 48-year-old Connecticut man is scheduled to be in court Monday facing weapons charges after his arrest Friday morning at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, shortly before the start of the Winter Classic hockey game between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens.
Around 11:05 a.m., members of the Foxborough Police Department and the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office were notified of a “suspicious’’ man in the off-site employee lot, said Foxborough police in a statement.
Matthew Bromson of North Granby, Conn., was arrested without incident following a search of his vehicle, in which authorities recovered “an electric stun gun and several sharp edged weapons.’’
“This is an isolated incident and at no time was there any threat to Gillette Stadium,’’ said police in the statement. Police did not release any additional information.
Bromson is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Wrentham District Court on charges of trespassing, disorderly conduct, possession of an electric stun gun, and three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.
Bromson was also arrested in September 2014 in Granby following an overnight standoff with police, according to Granby Police Captain William Tyler.
When police tried to arrest Bromson on outstanding warrants, he threatened to shoot them and barricaded himself in his Lost Acres Road home, NBC Connecticut reported at the time. Bromson surrendered more than eight hours later, without shots fired or injuries, NBC reported.
Bromson pleaded guilty to charges of threatening in the second degree and interfering with an officer, according to police and the Connecticut courts database.
He was sentenced in June to one year in jail, which was suspended with three years’ probation, according to the database. Bromson violated his probation on Dec. 8, according to Tyler and the courts database.
