The Dorchester man accused of firing the shots that killed a Jeremiah E. Burke High School student outside the school last month was arrested nearly two weeks later and charged with stealing a scooter at gunpoint, according to court records.
A police report made public Tuesday identified Jaden Terry Waiters, 20, as the gunman who fatally shot 17-year-old Raekwon Brown, a junior at the Dorchester school, on June 8.
The report alleges Waiters “has been identified as the person who assaulted and beat the victim . . . by means of a gun and by such assault and beating did shoot and kill [Brown].’’
Investigators singled out Waiters as the shooter after reviewing records, forensic evidence, and surveillance video and interviewing witnesses, the report said. He was arrested Monday and ordered held without bail Tuesday during an arraignment in Dorchester Municipal Court.
Two other men, Benzy Bain, 24, of Mattapan, and Jonathan M. Aguasvivas, 23, of Roxbury, have also been charged in the killing.
Bain and Aguasvivas were arrested last month on charges of murder and assault with intent to murder and were ordered held without bail. They have both pleaded not guilty.
Brown was shot and killed in the middle of a school day, just after 1 p.m., after students had gone outside for a fire alarm. Two other teenage students were hospitalized and a 67-year-old woman was injured by a bullet that grazed her leg.
Waiters stood out of view at his arraignment, which was attended by members of Brown’s family. Not-guilty pleas were entered on his behalf to charges of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
During the brief hearing, Suffolk Assistant District Attorney David Fredette did not offer details about the investigation that led to Waiters’s arrest.
Defense lawyer Robert L. Sheketoff did not make a bail argument and later declined to comment on the case.
Bain and Aguasvivas also appeared in court briefly. They were scheduled to have a probable cause hearing, but the proceeding was postponed until Sept. 7, which is also Waiters’s next court date.
Brown’s relatives declined to comment as they left court.
Records filed in Roxbury Municipal Court show Waiters has been arrested several times since 2014 and has been identified by police as a member a Boston street gang.
Less than two weeks after Brown was killed, police arrested Waiters for allegedly stealing a motor scooter from a 16-year-old boy near Horatio Harris Park in Roxbury, court records show.
The boy told officers he was riding his scooter when he was approached by Waiters and another man at about 5:33 p.m. on June 19, according to the police report. He said he knew Waiters by his street name, Snacks.
During the confrontation, the teenager said Waiters displayed a .38-caliber revolver and demanded his black scooter, the report said. Police arrested Waiters on June 21 after the teenager identified him as the assailant, the report said. The firearm allegedly used in the robbery was not recovered, court records show.
Waiters was arraigned on a charge of armed robbery and pleaded not guilty. Court records say his bail was set at $750, which was posted on June 23.
When Waiters was arrested, he was on probation for marijuana offenses; a hearing has been set for Thursday to determine whether Waiters violated the terms of his probation, court records show.
