More things to remember on your forms

Things to keep in mind when filing your 2015 taxes:

ª The Washington holiday of Emancipation Day falls on April 15, thus moving the federal tax deadline to April 18. In Massachusetts, that’s Patriots Day. So Massachusetts residents have until April 19 to file their taxes.

ª Tax penalties related to the Affordable Care Act are going up. For 2015, individuals without qualifying health care coverage will owe the greater of $325 or 2 percent of income. For families, the amount is $975 or 2 percent of income.

ª Tax legislation last year extended two popular tax breaks, making them permanent. The first allows people age 70½ and older to use required minimum distributions to make tax-free charitable donations directly from their IRA. The second allows K-12 teachers to deduct up $250 for school supplies purchased with their own money.
