The Hollywood Reporter released its annual ranking of the entertainment industry’s 25 most influential authors Wednesday, and coming in at No. 17 is none other than Boston-based writer Ben Mezrich. Known to most for writing the books on which “21’’ and “The Social Network’’ were based, the Harvard University graduate wholeheartedly welcomes film adaptations of his work. In fact, he currently has four more projects in development, based on the following books: “Woolly,’’ an account of an attempt to clone a woolly mammoth using frozen DNA; “Once Upon a Time in Russia,’’ a nonfiction book about Russian oligarchs; and the novels “Seven Wonders’’ and “Sex on the Moon.’’ Mezrich placed right below Margaret Atwood, who has television versions of “The Handmaid’s Tale’’ and “Alias Grace’’ slated, and a couple slots above “Girl on the Train’’ writer Paula Hawkins. J.K. Rowling unsurprisingly tops the list, followed by potentially feuding authors Stephen King and James Patterson (in that order). Also in the top 10 are Dennis Lehane, ranked 10th, and Neil Gaiman, in ninth place.
