More than a dozen prominent judges, lawyers, and journalists are slated to present a staged reading of excerpts from William Shakespeare’s play “Julius Caesar’’ on Sept. 28. The event is part of the “Shakespeare & the Law’’ series presented by Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, McCarter & English, and the Federalist Society, and features an all-star cast that includes former attorney general Martha Coakley; retired US District Court judge Nancy Gertner; Judge David J. Barron from the US First Circuit Court of Appeals; Jennifer C. Braceras, attorney and editor of NewBostonPost; David French, attorney and staff writer for National Review; Boston Globe op-ed columnist Jeff Jacoby; Daniel J. Kelly, chairman of the Boston lawyers division of the Federalist Society and a partner at McCarter & English; Dean Reuter, vice president and director of the practice groups of the Federalist Society; Carol Rose, executive director of the ACLU of Massachusetts; and US District Court judges George A. O’Toole Jr., F. Dennis Saylor IV, Douglas P. Woodlock, Nathaniel M. Gorton, and Rya W. Zobel. The play excerpts will be performed under the direction of Steven Maler, the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s artistic director, and will be followed by a discussion about the themes of the play and how they relate to today’s political environment. The event is scheduled for Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. at the Wimberly Theatre at the Boston Center for the Arts at 539 Tremont St. It’s free to attend, but seating is limited.
