New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has 65 receiving touchdowns and a Super Bowl championship to his name, but how good is he at killing space demons? Fans will find out this month when Gronk joins a bracket of pro athletes and YouTube stars for “Day of Doom,’’ a live-streamed tournament of the iconic sci-fi horror game “Doom.’’ Announced Thursday, the competition will pit four teams of six, each co-captained by an athlete and YouTube gamer, in multiplayer matchups of the upcoming “Doom’’ reboot. Michael Jones, known by his YouTube handle Achievement Hunter, reps Team Gronk, with current and former NFL stars Antonio Brown and Chad “Ochocinco’’ Johnson, French footballer Thierry Henry, and YouTubers Justine Ezarik (iJustine), Alia Shelesh (SSSniperWolf), and Adam Kovic (Funhaus) rounding out the bracket. Can the brawny bravery of the world’s top athletes combine with the digital dexterity of the Web’s top gamers come together in gory glory? Find out March 29 on YouTube, if you can stomach it, you wimp.
