Birds of a feather
Thanks so much to Katharine Whittemore for her entertaining and informative “Bird’s Eye View’’ (SundayArts, Feb. 14). As a passionate, often obsessive birder, I laughed and shook my head at the funny moments and observations in the article and mentioned within the books listed. I go birding often and spend way too much time researching identifications and sightings (when I should be furniture or grocery shopping), driving all over the state, enduring freezing, heat waves, and rain, finding places to park, entering sightings to worldwide databases, and observing species in our local area and beyond. Though this pursuit does sometimes seem filled with utmost nerdiness, challenges, highs and lows, and all-out craziness, it does bring “intense joy’’ personally, as author Luke Dempsey mentioned, and joy for exposing others to the little miracles . . . like your son sharing in the pileated woodpecker’s tree bashing. Our birding community is proud of our sightings data used by Cornell and others for trend analysis. I’m always happy to hear about the joy and smiles that other birders experience. What a world and life we share.

The worst?
I get laughs from “2 Broke Girls’’ (“Is ‘2 Broke Girls’ the worst sitcom on TV?,’’ TV Critic’s Corner, Feb. 25). After the stress of my job, sometimes it’s fun to not have to think too much for a laugh.

If the cast was British, you’d be calling it witty, sophisticated adult humor.

Is “2 Broke Girls’’ the worst sitcom on TV? Why, yes, I do believe it is. Thanks for asking.
