Spring training report

SUNDAY’S WEATHER: Clouds were spotted but temperatures remained in the mid-70s. It may rain Monday.

MEDICAL REPORT: Koji Uehara (sinus infection) is feeling better and played catch. He should get back on a mound in a few days.

FUNDAMENTALLY SPEAKING: Carlos Marmol is trying to get his career back after a rough few seasons and has work to do on the mound. But the veteran reliever isn’t just going through the motions on defensive drills as he hustled to field bunts. Must be all that National League experience.

THUMBS UP: Travis Shaw is getting after it. The second-year infielder had a long session at first base on Saturday, and on Sunday was at third base taking grounders alongside Pablo Sandoval. Without fanfare, Shaw continues to present himself as an option.

THUMBS DOWN: Sandoval stopped after his workout to sign some autographs outside of Field 1. Far too many adults were blocking kids from getting to the Panda. Ease up, people.

AROUND THE BASES: New NESN play-by-play man Dave O’Brien made an appearance in camp. He’ll be here often outside of those weekends when his ESPN college basketball duties take precedence. Radio announcer Joe Castiglione, who has a home close to Fenway South, also has been around the fields every day.

SCHEDULE: The Red Sox stretched at 10 a.m. Sunday, played catch 15 minutes later, and then started drills at 10:27 a.m. They schedule like an airline here.
