The Burlington boys’ hockey team used a four-goal second period to beat host Watertown, 4-0, on Saturday at John Ryan Skating Arena.
The seventh-ranked Red Devils (2-1-2) snapped a two-game winless streak by scoring four goals in a five-minute span in the second period.
The teams skated to a scoreless first period despite Burlington firing 18 shots on Watertown goaltender Jason Hughes, who ended up with 44 saves.
Burlington senior Robby Ryan scored at the 4:27 mark before Riley Gilberg (8:06), Sean Casey (8:58), and Anthony Nikolopoulos (9:03) scored in a span of 57 seconds.
“We’ve been offensively challenged [through the first few games], we haven’t scored many goals, so it was nice to get some goals in a bunch there,’’ said Burlington coach Bob Conceison.
“We’ve been playing well, but we haven’t scored much.’’
Ryan, who was the Red Devils’ leading scorer as a junior with 25 points, notched his first goal of the season.
“It was a nice release for him and for us [to get that first goal],’’ said Conceison. “That was a catalyst, with the next three goals coming quickly.’’
The Red Devils outshot their Middlesex League rivals, 48-13.
Burlington controlled the pace, playing with more flow and with less anxiety when possessing the puck than in previous games.
“We seemed like we were moving the puck man-to-man,’’ said Conceison. “Then we buried some pucks, which was nice to see.’’
