In the next few weeks, lots of new shows will rain down upon us, from NBC’s heart-tugger “This Is Us’’ to HBO’s “Westworld’’ with Anthony Hopkins. More on those as the leaves fall. But there are a number of returning series I’ll be glad to see again. Here are a few:

My old favorite “Shameless’’ will be back for season seven on Showtime on Oct. 2. It’s one of the few series that has remained consistent over such a long run. It’s family drama at its most honest and warped.

Amazon is bringing back “Transparent’’ for a third season on Sept. 23. Will the Pfeffermans finally drive fans up a tree with their self-absorption? Or will they remain relatable in their searching and amusing in their missteps? I’m thinking the latter.

I’ve developed an affection for Fox’s cop spoof “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,’’ which returns on Sept. 20. It’s a half-hour watching an ensemble of good actors have a good time with a frivolous, agile script.

The second season of “The Affair’’ on Showtime was smart, sudsy, and addictive, with Maura Tierney finally getting a chance to develop her character. Season three, which will be set three years later and feature five different perspectives, starts on Nov. 20.

Have you seen “Black Mirror,’’ a mind-blowing British anthology drama that operates like a “Twilight Zone’’ filled with near-future shocks? It’s twisted, brilliant, frightening, and satirical. The episodes are on Netflix, which has commissioned a 12-episode third season, half of which will be available of Oct. 21.
