Every girls’ soccer game in the Bay State league is a battle, and on Wednesday Milton’s junior forward Chae Diani found the back of the net with 14 seconds to go to secure a key league win on the road against Braintree, 3-2.
With the Wildcats clinging to a 2-1 lead and just over two minutes remaining, the Wamps’ Jenna Roche found the back of the net with a header off a cross to tie the score.
“At that point you’re thinking ‘the game is over, there isn’t much to do,’ ’’ Milton coach Brian Borde said.
That was until Diani was set up beautifully by senior midfielder Alyssa Lum with 14 seconds remaining.
“This sends the right message to the kids that you never give up and play until the final whistle,’’ Borde added.
Milton (1-0) took the lead in the 25th minute when Diani scored her first goal.
Braintree (0-1) came right back about three minutes later to tie the game.
Lum then regained the advantage for the Wildcats with a goal a couple minutes before halftime.
Milton goalkeeper Kat Buchanan, who also plays goal in lacrosse, played her first career game in net and Borde gave her much praise for her performance.
“She did all we could have asked for her.’’
