Hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean was at Venu nightclub Monday night checking out local music producers competing in the Remy Producers Series. Jean was one of a panel of judges that included Rebekah Espinosa of Sony Records, Vashon Straws of Universal Records, Theo Brown of Atlantic Records, and DJ Pup Dawg of Jam’n 94.5. Maverik, also from Jam’n, served as host of the event. Before the night’s end, local producer Real Precyse emerged as the winner of the Boston qualifier round. “It was electrifying,’’ said the 28-year-old Boston native. “[Wyclef Jean] is a really good guy.’’ During the event Jean gave a music “tech-talk’’ and reminded everyone about his connection to the city: He studied at Berklee College of Music. Apparently, Jean put on quite a show for the crowd, with an impromptu hourlong performance that included battling the DJ and showing off his musical prowess by playing the drums, keyboard, and guitar. He reportedly called a local rapper to the stage to freestyle and offered another person a dancing role in the music video for his latest single, “Hendrix.’’ And look out for big things from Real Precyse as he advances to the next round of the Remy Producer Series. In September he’ll head to New York City for the finale, where he’ll face off against other winners from around the country. Pictured: Maverik (left) and Jean.
