Rossum, who’s best known for her role on the Showtime series “Shameless,’’ will next appear in “A Futile & Stupid Gesture,’’ a biopic about National Lampoon cofounder (and Harvard alum) Doug Kenney. In the movie, which is based on Josh Karp’s best-selling book of the same name, Rossum plays the role of Kenney’s close friend Kathryn Walker. The film also stars Will Forte as Kenney; Seth Green as Christopher Guest; Natasha Lyonne as Anne Beatts; Joel McHale as Chevy Chase; John Gemberling as John Belushi; Martin Mull as an older version of Kenney; Rick Glassman as Harold Ramis; Jackie Tohn as Gilda Radner; and Jon Daly as Bill Murray. Netflix is slated to release the film later this year.
