Boston police saved a female from an apparent heroin overdose in Roxbury Sunday night by giving her an antidote, police said Tuesday. Officers gave her Narcan nasal spray. Shortly after, she regained consciousness and became alert.

While on patrol in the area around Dewitt Drive and Estabrook Road, officers saw a man near a parked car acting “frantic [and] panicked,’’ police said. When they went to help him, they found the female, whose age was not released by police, in the driver’s seat.

The female was unresponsive and breathing shallowly, but she had a pulse. Officers saw evidence of drug use next to her in the car and immediately knew that she was experiencing an overdose.

The female was taken to Tufts Medical Center for evaluation. Police did not release any information about her condition.
